How Lookout’s private SOS and check-in timers work

Private SOS is a way to reach selected trusted contacts. Lookout does not dispatch emergency services, and an app alert does not guarantee that someone received it or will respond.

Who receives a private SOS?

SOS creates a private alert for the trusted contacts you select who are eligible to receive it. It is not a public broadcast and does not post your alert to the community incident map.

Creating an alert is not confirmation of help

Delivery and responses depend on network access, device permissions and contact availability. Do not wait for an app notification or response if you need urgent help; call local emergency services directly.

How a check-in timer differs

Choose a check-in time and trusted contacts who can be notified if you miss it. A timer does not automatically activate SOS or call emergency services.
